Camera library OPENS at Yarra Youth Services in Fitzroy (VIC)!!!

Making digital technology accessible for youth is the idea behind Camera Recycle Project's partnership with Yarra Youth Services’ - this week the “Technology Library” in Fitzroy began – the first of its kind in Melbourne.

The technology library will employ local Fitzroy resident, Guled Abdulwasi (19), to provide the camera hire service to his 12-25 year old peers as well as provide an outlet for the community to recycle unwanted cameras and associated digital waste.

Every Wednesday and Friday young people will be able to freely use digital cameras and have access to photographic mentoring and advice – cameras are then available for hire for $5 per week with overdue fees of 50c per day, just like a traditional library.

The young people who frequent Yarra Youth Services live in the high-rise housing estates and represent a melting pot of migrant backgrounds - so we are really excited to be able to see the world through their eyes.
